Brett Kissel to Receive Canada’s Walk of Fame Allan Slaight Honour
“At only 26, Brett has solidified his place in country music,” said Melanie Hurley, CEO, Canada’s Walk of Fame. “His strong work ethic, enthusiasm and determination is unparalleled and we are proud to recognize him with this honour.”
“From a cattle ranch in rural Alberta to sold out crowds opening for international superstar Garth Brooks, Brett is the perfect example of what can be achieved with hard work, talent and passion. My father Allan believes and always supported Canadian artists and we are proud to acknowledge Brett’s accomplishments and compassion to help others,” said Gary Slaight, President and CEO of Slaight Communications.
Brett Kissel, the proud ranch kid from Flat Lake, Alberta, has a list of accolades a country mile long, including a JUNO Award for “Breakthrough Artist of the Year,” which marked the first time a country singer won the award in almost 20 years, as well as a tractor bucket full of Canadian Country Music Association Awards and nominations. He toured with Brad Paisley, performed on the sacred stage at the Grand Ole Opry and is the first Canadian to ever open shows for global mega star Garth Brooks, which surely solidified his place in the national and international music industry. But it’s not the awards or accolades that mean most to Kissel – it’s the music, the stage and the fans.
Now in its seventh year, the Allan Slaight Honour is presented to a young Canadian making a positive impact in the music industry. The honour is accompanied by a $10,000 honorarium and will be presented during Canada’s Walk of Fame Celebration Events that will take place on Thursday, October 6 at the Allstream Centre in Toronto. The celebration will kick off with a public outdoor star-studded red carpet arrival beginning at 4pm ET, followed by Canada’s Walk of Fame Broadcast Gala where Kissel will be honoured alongside this year’s inductees. The Broadcast Gala will also feature special guest presenters and surprise performances, and will be filmed for broadcast to air as a televised special on Global on Sunday, December 18 at 8pm ET/PT. Presenters and performers will be announced at a later date. This year’s Gala and Broadcast is being produced by Enter the Picture Productions Inc. Executive Producer is Lynn Harvey.
The Allan Slaight Honour is part of Canada’s Walk of Fame a series of national programs and signature events that include the Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Program supported by RBC, the Peter Soumalias Unsung Hero Honour, Canada’s Walk of Fame Red Carpet, Inductee Charity Ball presented by Scotia Wealth Management and Canada’s Walk of Fame televised show, which will be broadcast nationally on Global.
